The University of Johannesburg has been steadily increasing its student intake over the past five years and will continue to do so into the near future with engineering sciences and management-based subjects experiencing the greatest expansion.

Due to the nature of the most popular courses, common modules generate large class sizes, hence the need for larger venues in order to maximise teaching time.

The original university campus was designed in the radical configuration by architects Meyer Pienaar in the 1960s and the new A-Ring building fits into the last remaining peripheral site of the ‘ring” buildings.

The new structure provides connectivity into the main circulation passage of the existing buildings from the campus grounds.
